Meet Tyler Kamp

A BACKGROUND OF SERVICE.

Tyler’s career in law enforcement, spanning over two decades, is marked by an unwavering commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement.  His candidacy for Sheriff of Maricopa County is not only about bringing his extensive law enforcement and management experience to the role, but also about infusing the office with innovative practices, accountability, ethical leadership, and a relentless pursuit of justice.

A fifth-generation resident of Maricopa County, Tyler’s journey in law enforcement is deeply rooted in the community he aspires to serve.  After receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Administration of Justice from Arizona State University, Tyler embarked on a distinguished career with the Phoenix Police Department.  His tenure as Shift Commander, Gang Enforcement Sergeant and Homicide Detective reflects his versatile capabilities in tackling a wide range of law enforcement challenges.  Tyler led countless short and long-term organized crime investigations involving wiretaps and undercover operations.  His expertise in these sophisticated investigations not only brought significant results in crime reduction but also enhanced interagency collaboration.

OUTREACH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

Tyler’s community-centric policing extends beyond the conventional boundaries of law enforcement.  His involvement in “Operation Guardian”, a collaborative project with local and federal agencies and Arizona State University, highlights his innovative approach to gang intervention.  This initiative focused on identifying gang members and offering them life-changing solutions, showcasing Tyler’s belief in proactive, effective and compassionate law enforcement.

Internationally, he served as the Director of Investigations and Law Enforcement Development for a non-government organization in relocating his family to West Africa. This experience is a testament to his global perspective and ability to address complex issues like cross border human trafficking and forced slavery.  His leadership in establishing a maritime academy for the Ghana Marine Police to interdict and investigate child trafficking on Lake Volta demonstrates his commitment to human rights and international collaboration.  He also established the first ever Cross Border Human Trafficking Task Force at the Kotoka International Airport in West Africa.  The Task Force was responsible for interdicting young women that were being trafficked to the Middle East for forced labor slavery and repatriation of trafficked women back to their home country.  These initiatives required not only a deep understanding of international law and human rights, but an ability to navigate complex cultural and political landscapes.

Tyler’s commitment to community service extends beyond his professional roles.  His involvement with Samaritan’s Purse as part of their Disaster Assistance Response Team reflects his readiness to aid those in need.  His volunteer work, including building cribs and desks for orphanages in Bolivia and training police in Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil, Paraguay, and Bulgaria speaks volumes about his humanitarian spirit.  His candidacy for Sheriff is bolstered by his deep family roots and his longstanding commitment to community.

For the past year, Tyler has served as Director of Executive Protection for Thrive Service Group Inc, a not-for-profit organization that strives to eradicate poverty through social innovation and profitable businesses. By collaborating with communities, stakeholders and business partners, Thrive provides creative solutions in housing, education, food security and health services, which result in social and financial return for generations to come.

WHO HE IS & WHAT HE STANDS FOR.

Tyler has been married to his wonderful wife, Alanna for 25 years and they share four beautiful children. He is also involved in his local church as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Missions Board Member.

Tyler represents the ideal blend of innovative crime-fighting techniques, ethical leadership and community engagement.  His diverse experiences ranging from local law enforcement and executive protection to international law enforcement development and humanitarian work, equip him with the unique perspective and skill set ideally suited for the role of Maricopa County Sheriff.  Tyler will bring a wealth of experience and innovation to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, but also ensure a leadership grounded in integrity, accountability and a deep commitment to serving the community.
